Attending Physician - Emergency at Christiana

Shift: Rotating (United States of America)

A Brief Overview

The physician evaluates and treats patients in an applicable medical and/or surgical specialty or subspecialty within a hospital, inpatient, outpatient, or affiliate practice. Physician documents medical findings in EPIC, provides support to patients, families, and colleagues, and collaborates with office administration, nursing, and other clinical staff. Sees patients to diagnose and/or treat various conditions within the specialty and/or subspecialty. Assesses complex acute, critical, and chronically ill patients for urgent and emergent conditions.

Uses relevant data to evaluate for physiologic instability and formulates a care plan. Orders labs, testing, or medication as appropriate. May provide supervision and mentorship of trainees and/or advanced practice providers and support the professional development of other clinical staff. Complies with all applicable federal, state, local, legal, regulatory, and clinical standards and requirements including HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission, DOH and CLIA.

May represent CHOP with external organizations or professional associations upon request.

What You Will Do
  • Direct patient care to a panel of patients in the practice.
  • May supervise clinical providers including trainees and advanced practice providers and provide performance feedback.
  • Supervise and ensure high quality of all clinical care services across a variety of care settings.
  • Review current applicable pediatric/adult standards of care and work with leadership to implement new processes.
  • Respond to clinical alerts and updates from public health officials as needed.
  • Perform therapeutic interventions to stabilize acute and critical health problems.
  • Demonstrate commitment to patient safety and report safety issues.
  • Analyze indications, contraindications, risk of complications and cost-benefits of therapeutic interventions.
  • Manage plan of care through evaluation, modification, and documentation according to patient response.
  • Optimize patient outcomes and incorporate health promotion and injury prevention measures.
  • Facilitate patient transitions between and within health care settings.
  • Serve as an educational resource to patients/families and other clinical staff.
  • Act as a consultant to multidisciplinary health care team members.
  • Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies and seeking educational offerings.
  • Participate in the professional development of others and may act as a preceptor.
  • Provide support and leadership for trainee education curriculum and program implementation.
  • Participate in scholarly activities including research and education as applicable.
  • Assist with administrative management of the hospital or office setting and evaluate patient flow, quality improvement, staff performance, and effective work teams.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of departmental standards, policies, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education Qualifications
  • Doctorate Medicine (MD) or Osteopathic Medicine (DO) – Required
Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of applicable hospital policies, practices, and protocols and applicable regulations and guidelines.
  • Proficiency in computer systems and applications.
  • Judgment, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Effective relationship building with medical and administrative staff, patients, and the public.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Medical License in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and any states practicing in – upon hire – required.
  • Board Certification in Medical Specialty – within 36 months – required.
  • DEA License – upon hire – required.
  • Clinical Decision Support (CDS) – as applicable based on site of practice – upon hire – preferred.

Salary Range

$36,279.00 – $ Annually (Full‑time). Salary may be adjusted for part‑time work. Factors such as skills and experience could result in an offer above the stated range.
