Senior Controls Engineer

Kelly Engineering has an exciting Senior Automation Controls Engineer project with a Medical Device leader in Newark, CA.

• 6 months with possible extensions
• Pay rate up to $140.00 per hour
• Onsite in Newark, CA; occasional travel to other CA locations
• W-2 only; no C2C

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the technical lead for automation controls, conducting design reviews and leveraging cutting-edge technologies to create high-volume production equipment.
• Provide expertise to engineering teams in upgrading, maintaining, and troubleshooting automation systems. Drive enhancements in software validation and equipment qualification processes and oversee the successful installation and startup of new systems.
• Design custom automation solutions, develop programs for PLC-based control systems, HMIs, SCADA, vision systems, and integrate machine learning algorithms, including all ancillary controllers required for full system functionality.
• Liaise with various departments to understand and translate customer requirements into process and equipment improvements, focusing on efficiency and reliability.

Skills &

Qualifications:

• Proven experience with high-speed manufacturing equipment, complex precision mechanisms, robotics, and automation modules—including motion control, vision systems, SCADA, servo controls
• Advanced knowledge of PLC programming and development (Rockwell RSLogix preferred), SCADA platforms (Ignition), and vision inspection systems (Cognex). Demonstrated hands-on experience in electrical troubleshooting in high-volume automated manufacturing environments.
