Up to £55,000 + bonus

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Design Estimator will be responsible for the technical and commercial preparation of tenders for specialist ground engineering projects.

The role requires a strong understanding of geotechnical principles, constructability, risk assessment, and cost planning within a ground engineering environment.

• Review tender documentation
• Develop preliminary tender designs
• Undertake quantity take-offs and build up detailed cost estimates
• Liaise with in-house design teams, temporary works engineers, and operational staff to ensure buildable and cost-effective solutions
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Prepare technical submissions and methodology statements as part of tender returns
• Attend pre-tender meetings, site visits and client interviews across the UK
• Support post-tender negotiations and handover to delivery teams

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Minimum 2 years' experience within ground investigation, ground engineering or a geotechnical contracting environment
• Exposure to retaining structures, piling, or slope stabilisation techniques
• Commercial awareness and understanding of construction cost drivers
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple tenders simultaneously
• Strong communication skills, both technical and commercial
• Competent user of Microsoft Office (Excel essential)
• Previous pricing and/or design experience is advantageous but not essential

• Degree (or equivalent experience) in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or related discipline preferred
• Full, clean UK driving licence (essential)
