Description:

The Manager-CBD oversees the Import Customs Department, managing daily operations and supervising department staff while ensuring efficient customs brokerage support. This position reports directly to the Director.

Essential Functions:

Supervisory & Managerial Duties
  • Responsible for daily supervision of customs import operations activities to ensure efficient allocation of resources and compliance with policies and procedures
  • Monitors and reviews employees’ work activities through individual meetings and group meetings to ensure that all work activities are proceeding smoothly to plan.
  • Manage and Continuous Training of Employees within NYC Import Brokerage Department, to improve Efficiency, Productivity and Accuracy of Operations.
  • Ensures ISF compliance and address any issues immediately
  • Is mindful of any incurred penalties and addresses any infraction accordingly
  • Responsible for solving problems that may arise, and reporting irregular issues to senior management.
  • Assists staff with any problems that may arise with shipments or customers.
  • Delegates and advises employees on work procedures and practices
  • Motivates, develops and mentors employees for improved performance.
  • Communicates and coordinates information both in writing and orally on a regular basis to both management and staff
  • Monitors department expenditures, and looks for cost saving methods
  • Responsible for the hiring of new employees, writing annual performance evaluations, and handling disciplinary actions.
  • Prepares any department reports that are required by senior management
  • Performs special projects and other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.
Custom Broker
  • Examine and classify documents in order to make entry.
  • Interface directly with Customs Broker and U.S. Customs on all issues relating to the importation of products, and as directed by management.
  • Ensures regular maintenance of the classification data base.
  • Obtain product rulings, pre-classification as necessary to assure compliance.
  • Ensure that all import transactions meet compliance standards set forth by U.S. Customs regulations and other governmental agencies (ATF, EPA, FDA).
  • Assure that all Customs files and records are in compliance with custom's requirements.
  • Arrange and Prepare additional U.S. Customs Related Service to Clients, including Appeal of Duty Charges, Duty Drawback, Refund, IT, TIB, T&E, and other and all related services.
  • Quote duty rates on goods to be imported.
  • Calculate and report all Customs related issues to local authorities.
  • Assure compliance with local regulations on all import and export activities.
  • Code & verify customs billing.
  • Audits of the commercial invoices to ensure the correct valuation is filed to customs.
  • Verify customer credit.
  • Verify any transaction after the entry is filed into customs.
  • Deals with CBP inquiries and special requests; approve POA documents and assist customers with customs bond issues.
  • Coordinates deliveries or re-forwarding once the shipment arrives at the warehouse.
  • Support Inquiries from sales.
  • Develop and Implement new Method of NYC Import Brokerage Department Operations for improvement planning and methods to increase productivity and efficiency of import brokerage operations.
  • Manage and Monitor Customer Profile, such as Bond Status, POA Status, Invoice Billing Structure and any and all other information. Provide communication to Clients and our Representative of any necessary information.

Import Operation
  • Obtain documents for upcoming shipments.
  • Review documents and confirm the information with airlines, steamship lines, and freight forwarders.
  • Contacts customs officials to affect release of incoming freight and resolve customs delays.
  • Communicate with customer service dept. and sales dept. on any quotes that are needed.
  • Check cargo availability, and issue delivery orders.
  • Comply with governmental agencies and all the regulations.
  • Request and Issue billings.
  • Input data and develop monthly reports as well as customer information.
  • Process and audit all imports to verify done legally with customs.
