Import Specialist – Entry Writer
Location:
This role is based in the Inwood NY HQ
This position supports import operations by specializing in U.S. Customs clearance procedures and documentation. The Import Specialist coordinates global shipments, prepares and submits required entries, and ensures compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations. This role reports exceptions and requests guidance from the Manager as needed in daily operations.
Key Responsibilities- Customs Entry Writing:
Serve as an experienced Customs Entry Writer, preparing and submitting all necessary import documents and declarations to CBP. - Tariff Classification:
Apply current knowledge of the Tariff Schedule and customs regulations to accurately classify goods. - Logistics & Delivery:
Arrange and coordinate last-mile delivery by dispatching trucks and managing inland transportation from the port of arrival to the final destination. - Shipment Coordination:
Coordinate and manage the complete customer service for assigned inbound international shipments entering the United States. - Compliance & Documentation:
Obtain and maintain client Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure all required import documentation is accurate and compliant. - Communication:
Coordinate effectively with internal departments (Logistics, Warehousing, IT) and external partners (carriers, customs brokers, clients) to resolve shipment issues. - Customer Service:
Handle client requests, including billing inquiries, and refer complex customs or operational issues to the Manager. - Other projects as assigned.
- Experience:
At least 1 year or more of experience working directly with a freight forwarder focusing on Customs clearance and import operations. - Entry Writing:
Experienced as an Entry Writer, including familiarity with current tariffs, classifications, and CBP regulations. - Technical
Skills:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Outlook, and Excel. - Work Ethic:
Highly self‑motivated, organized, and able to multitask effectively. - Pressure Management:
Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines with a positive attitude. - Communication:
Able to convey information clearly verbally and in writing. - Service:
Passion for delivering quality customer service and a willingness to be a collaborative team player.
- High School graduate required; a college degree in logistics, business, transportation, or a related field is a plus.
- Industry certifications related to Customs, logistics, or transportation are a plus.
