Role Description

The Baggage Screening Technician is responsible for conducting security screenings of passengers, baggage, and cargo to ensure compliance with aviation security regulations. Utilizing advanced screening equipment and manual inspection techniques, the role helps detect prohibited items while maintaining efficiency, professionalism, and adherence to strict security protocols. Technicians work closely with security teams to safeguard airport operations and enhance passenger safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate x‑ray machines and other technology to inspect checked baggage, carry‑on items, and cargo.
  • Identify prohibited items, explosives, and dangerous materials.
  • Ensure compliance with security protocols and regulations.
  • Use scanner machines and hand wands to check passengers for illicit items.
  • Perform physical pat‑downs as required, respecting privacy and individual needs.
  • Verify passenger boarding passes and identification to ensure flight requirements are met.
  • Coordinate with other security personnel, airline staff, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Report any suspicious or potentially dangerous situations promptly.
  • Provide clear instructions to passengers during the screening process.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain screening equipment.
  • Troubleshoot minor issues and report any malfunctions promptly.
  • Interact with passengers in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Address questions and concerns related to the screening process.
  • Additional duties as required.
Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of experience as an airport baggage screener.
  • Completion of a TSA‑approved training program.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to security protocols.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. continuously and perform physically demanding task.
  • Ability to problem‑solve and provide excellent hands‑on customer service.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance.
Preferred
  • 3 or more years of experience as an airport baggage screener.
