A well‑funded B2B Payments financial technology Series A start‑up based in New York City is hiring an experienced senior software engineer to build a next‑generation payments platform. The product is capable of powering billions of dollars of payments volume and it is targeting clients from a trillion‑dollar industry in the U.S.
They're specifically looking for engineers who thrive in start‑up environments – people who can take complete ownership of systems, build scalable architectures, design systems and deliver new features from the ground up. This role will be vital to the development of the core platform and will partner closely with the company’s CTO. The ideal engineer is someone excited about the product and the mission, all while looking to be part of a team and company looking to continuously scale.

Responsibilities- Design and build core parts of a payments platform such as:
- Money movement and payments operations functions
- Integrations with third‑party business systems
- Performance tuning and scaling
- Reporting and compliance functionality
- Design customer‑facing APIs
- Build and maintain system architecture
- Build new features from the ground up
- Accelerate and improve engineering processes
- Contribute to the team’s culture by setting the pace and serving as an example of excellence.
- Be involved in interviewing, onboarding, and mentoring new hires.
- 6+ years of software engineering experience (Python required)
- Previous start‑up experience preferred
- Ability to write and debug production‑quality backend code
- Ability to evaluate the trade‑offs between speed and robustness when it comes to systems design
- Strong and proactive communication skills
- Ability to evaluate customer impact of technical features
- Preferred (not required):
Experience with AWS services, Postgre
SQL, Redis - Preferred (not required):
Prior experience or demonstrated interest in payments and/or fintech
