THE POSITION

Our roster has an opening with your name on it. We’re growing our Trader Automation Engineering team that works on software that prices betting markets for the major US sports. The team collaborates with other groups to build trader automation tooling and identify opportunities for technical innovation within Risk and Trading. Stakeholders establish the odds and prices for Fan Duel, America’s #1 sports book.

As a Software Engineer within Fan Duel’s Trading Solutions team, you will be an essential part of a cross‑functional agile team that directly impacts the business. You will work with a team to implement high‑quality solutions, scope effort and timelines, and balance stakeholder and engineering needs. The team will deliver software with emphasis on testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance. Our engineers own every part of the software delivery lifecycle.

You will work with quantitative analysts and sports platform engineering teams to improve the user experience for trading teams. You will identify opportunities in the trader automation space to innovate through technology.

In addition to the responsibilities above, employees may be asked to perform other duties as assigned by the Company to meet evolving business needs.

THE GAME PLAN

Everyone on our team has a part to play. You will be a significant and autonomous contributor, delivering high‑quality work. You will solve difficult problems, design and build stable, performant software, limit short‑term workarounds, avoid unnecessary complexity, and create flexible software without over‑engineering. You will reuse where possible, make sensible trade‑offs, and be efficient with resources (e.g., hardware, databases, memory, CPU).

We are looking for engineers who engage in technical discussions, assist in designing and implementing solutions, and deliver ongoing improvements. You should be excited to learn and develop professionally. You should have many of the following skills and be eager to build the skills you don’t:

  • Work with stakeholders and peers on project ideas.
  • Own parts of product and technology and become subject matter experts.
  • Write simple, extensible code following standards and best practices; test your code thoroughly.
  • Balance customer requirements with team requirements.
  • Contribute to evolving the team through code reviews, design discussions, planning, and reviews of tickets, metrics, and COEs.
  • Classify, store, and handle data per Fan Duel policies.
  • Track security risks and mitigate or escalate them promptly.
  • Focus on operational excellence, identify problems, and propose solutions.
  • Take on projects and make software enhancements that improve the team’s software and processes.
  • Work to resolve root causes of complex problems, making software easier to maintain.
  • Participate in on‑call rotations where required and provide excellent customer support.
  • Stay up to date with market standards and open‑source frameworks.
  • Demonstrate creative problem‑solving abilities and a passion for learning.
  • Approach work with humility, pragmatism, self‑management, curiosity, and a commitment to quality code.
THE STATS

What we’re looking for in our next teammate

  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3 or more years of industry experience in an engineering field.
  • Proficiency in building services with a modern OOP language; C# experience is required.
  • Fundamental understanding of data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling (Build Kite and Git Hub Actions knowledge is beneficial).
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure as code (Terraform and Helm) is a plus.
  • Experience interacting with and designing relational databases.
  • Experience with streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka) is preferable.
  • Ability to document code, research, and designs clearly.
  • Proficiency in translating requirements into design and developing applications.
  • Understanding of containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Experience with unit testing and integrating testing into an SDLC.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
