Sr. Director, Software Engineering - Enterprise Data Storage and Consumption Platforms

Capital One is seeking a Senior Director, Software Engineer to work in our Enterprise Data Storage and Consumption Platforms Engineering Team and build the future of financial services. We are a fast-paced, mission-driven group responsible for managing and leveraging petabytes of sensitive, real-time and batch data that powers everything from fraud detection models and personalized reward systems to regulatory compliance reporting.

As a leader in Software Engineering, you will lead the build of platforms and you'll architect high-availability that directly influence millions of customer experiences and secure billions in transactions daily. You'll own critical data domains end-to-end, working cross-functionally with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Engineering teams, etc to solve complex, high-stakes problems with cutting-edge cloud technologies (like Kafka, and AWS services, serverless architecture).

• Lead, manage, and grow multiple teams of product focused software & data engineers
• Embrace and incubate emerging technology and open-source products across all platforms
• Work to modernize our existing tech stacks and data platforms
• Collaborate with internal teams to find areas of opportunities for automation and machine learning
• Partner with architects, product owners, data professionals, and software & data engineers to drive the implementation of new applications
• Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions across full-stack development tools and technologies
• Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments and provide operational support for the applications
• Conduct design and code review to ensure compliance with standards

• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 9 years of experience in software engineering
• At least 7 years of people management experience
• At least 3 years of experience with cloud-based data platforms (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform)

• Master’s Degree
• 5+ years of experience in Lakehouse architecture, optimizing data storage for Petabyte scale, enabling frictionless consumption of data from storage platforms, integrating with Data Governance Platforms
• 3+ years experience creating and maturing a Data Architecture function
