Founding Engineer

Overview

I’m working with an amazing, fast-growing YC-backed AI startup that’s rebuilding insurance from the ground up - starting with claims in an $8T global industry.

The company is backed by $6M from top-tier investors including Y Combinator, First Round, and SV Angel, and is led by repeat founders and former Apple engineers who have successfully scaled regulated financial infrastructure in the past. They’re building modern, production-grade AI systems designed to transform deeply embedded insurance workflows through machine learning, automation, and intelligent decisioning.

They’re currently hiring a Founding Engineer to play a critical role in building the company’s core product while helping establish the long-term technical foundation and engineering culture.

• Architect, design, and build production backend systems and scalable cloud infrastructure
• Make high-impact architectural decisions that will directly influence claims decisions worth billions of dollars
• Work across the stack when needed, with a backend-first and highly pragmatic engineering approach
• Partner closely with founders, product, and customers to iterate quickly and ship meaningful features
• Help define engineering best practices, technical standards, and contribute to building out the future team

• Opportunity to help shape best practices around AI security, reliability, and accountability in a regulated environment
• Deep and interesting technical challenges spanning AI systems, distributed systems, backend architecture, and infrastructure
• Ability to ship quickly, work directly with real customers, and see immediate impact from your work
• Foundational role with strong long-term growth potential into technical leadership

• Strong backend engineering and infrastructure experience (cloud platforms, infrastructure-as-code, distributed system scaling, production system design)
• Bonus if you’ve built or deployed impressive AI or ML-driven products
• Someone who can take ownership of technical decisions and balance rapid iteration with thoughtful long-term architecture
• Comfort operating in ambiguity and excitement about solving complex, messy, real-world problems
• A leadership-oriented mindset with interest in helping build both product and engineering team from the ground up
