Lead Software Engineer role at The Walt Disney Company
. Join us to shape the future of Disney’s media platforms with cutting‑edge technology that powers Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, ABC and more.
The Product Engineering team builds and maintains the streaming experience for Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital products. This role focuses on the native playback engine across consoles, mobile devices and set‑top boxes, leading feature development and cross‑platform integration.
Responsibilities- Port and optimize the Rust and C/C++ player for Xbox and other platforms.
- Collaborate with application, services engineering and product management to understand device limitations and requirements.
- Deliver full fidelity playback of modern audio/video standards (Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR
10+, etc.). - Lead quality and stability initiatives, including testing strategies and telemetry approaches.
- Develop and maintain build systems and continuous integration pipelines.
- Provide technical mentorship and hold the team to high development standards.
- Minimum 7 years of software development experience.
- Strong experience with C/C++ and Rust, including low‑level video player and cross‑platform development.
- Experience building and optimizing multithreaded applications for Windows and Xbox.
- Proficiency with Git, branching strategies and build/cross‑platform tooling (CMake, Cargo, MSBuild, etc.).
- Excellent communication, collaboration and mentorship skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Preferred:
Microsoft Media Foundation, streaming protocols (HLS/DASH), DRM technologies and embedded operating system experience.
San Francisco, CA – 40‑hour work week.
Salary range: $170,500 to $228,600 per year (based on experience and location).
Additional compensation may include bonuses, long‑term incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.
