We are seeking an experienced and motivated front-end engineer to advance our core mission: using the world’s most advanced technology for emotion understanding to build empathy and goal-alignment into AI. Hume AI is a Series B research lab dedicated to building artificial intelligence that is directly optimized for human well-being. EVI 3, our next flagship foundational speech-language model that powers empathic AI assistants for any application is available to test e.ai. We also recently released Octave 2 (Omni Capable Text and Voice Engine), the second generation of our frontier voice AI model for text-to-speech.

Our speech-language models understand subtle tones of voice, word emphasis, facial expressions, and listener reactions. EVI 3 unifies transcription, language, and speech in real time, enabling expressive, emotionally intelligent conversations using any voice or personality created with a prompt. Rated higher than GPT-4o on empathy, expressiveness, naturalness, and speed, it can instantly speak in over 100,000 unique voices and styles, stream language, emotion, and reasoning simultaneously, and respond in under 300 ms for truly conversational interactions.

As a Front-End Engineer, you will work closely with our team of research scientists, machine learning engineers, and designers to build our developer platform and commercial applications, making our powerful AI solutions accessible to users with varying degrees of technical sophistication through cutting edge no-code tools.

• Contribute new features to our frontend tools while maintaining high standards of excellence.
• Work autonomously to maintain and identify areas of improvement for existing code and tests.
• Identify areas for improvement within existing codebase that reduces code complexity and improves overall performance of web applications.
• Build internal tools to help facilitate prototyping, maintenance, and quality of codebase.
• Collaborate closely with our design, product, backend, and research teams.

• 3-7 years of experience in developing frontend web applications.
• Proficiency with a modern frontend stack (Type Script, React, Next, Tailwind, etc).
• Expertise in modern frontend best practices, including accessibility, semantic markup, Core Web Vitals, and optimization.
• Proficiency with tools like debuggers, profilers, and flame graphs to identify areas of improvement for performance
• Proficiency with tools for automated testing and CI/CD (such as Jest, Playwright, Axe, Wave, Git Hub Actions, Dev Containers).
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Familiarity with modern animation and data visualization libraries.
