Think of your resume as your personal highlight reel. Every job is different, so it helps to tweak your resume to match what that specific role is looking for. Try to keep it clean and not too long. You want the important stuff to pop. Look out for skills from your past experiences (even school or part-time jobs) that could apply, like teamwork, communication, or problem-solving.
Beresponsive and timely.
Once you start applying, keep an eye on your email and phone — things can move fast! You might get a call or text from a number you don’t recognize. It could be a recruiter, so it’s worth checking your messages regularly.
Before your interview, spend a few minutes learning about the company. Even just browsing their website or social media can give you a sense of what they care about. It’ll help you feel more confident and give you something to connect on. Also, read through job descriptions carefully. It’s okay to pass on a role if it doesn’t feel like the right fit for you.
You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be you. Share your story, your goals, and what kind of environment helps you do your best. If you’re asked something you don’t know, be honest and explain how you’d go about learning it. That kind of honesty goes a long way. Managers also pay attention to things like your attitude, how you carry yourself, and how easy you are to talk to, so take a breath, relax, and be yourself.
Followup to confirm interest.
After the interview, a quick thank-you email can really set you apart. It's a great opportunity to ask any follow-up questions you might have after the interview, and it helps you stay on the interview team's radar. It also leaves the conversation on a good note by showing your appreciation for the interview team's time.
