ProgramSRO
Primary FunctionMaintains front door security and supervises residents living in SRO. Ensures adherence to program policies and facilitates a secure and functional environment for the residents.
Duties and Responsibilities- Monitors all residents, staff and visitors entering and leaving the facility.
- Answers telephone and directs calls to the appropriate staff member and/or department.
- Welcomes and introduces new clients as they arrive and, in the absence of an onsite counselor, does preliminary intakes and reviews house rules.
- Prepares intake packages for new clients.
- Conducts vertical tours of the facility.
- Manages fire safety and other emergency procedures.
- Monitors fire alarm system and conducts fire drills.
- Makes daily rounds of the apartments.
- Maintains daily visitor and resident sign‑in logs.
- Conducts apartment inspections and pre‑and‑post‑vacancy apartment inventory.
- Prepares incident reports and enters them into the electronic data collection system.
- In an emergency, contacts EMS, FDNY, or NYPD to address onsite incidents.
- Contacts Program Director and PHSI staff regarding onsite emergencies.
- Attends professional development trainings to ensure all certifications are up to date.
- Performs other tasks as deemed necessary by the Program Director and Senior RA.
- New York State Security Guard License.
- 8‑hour and 16‑hour Security Guard certification.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred or previous experience.
- Candidate must be computer literate.
- Detail Oriented:
Capable of carrying out a given task with all details necessary to get the task done well. - Team Player:
Works well as a member of a group.
- General Equivalency Diploma or better.
- High School Diploma or better.
- Required:
Monitors residents in a Phipps Tier II shelter in the Bronx and ensures observance of house rules and facilitates a secure and functional environment for the residents, guests and staff. - Preferred:
Qualified candidates will have one year of experience, and demonstrate an ability to make clear decisions, handle stressful situations fairly, and set limits.
- 8‑Hour Training.
- 16‑Hour Training.
- Security Guard License.
