Job Summary:
The Youth Peer Support Services Worker will be responsible for engaging youth and their families in order to assist them in identifying their needs as well as achieving their goals. The Youth Peer Support Services worker will be an integral part of the Children and Family Treatment Support Services (CFTSS) Program and will participate in supportive, recreational and educational activities offered to youth and families.
- Engage youth in planning their own care and ensure their voice is heard
- Comply with New York State Office of Mental Health regulations
- Conference regularly with Care Managers and Supervisor
- Provide community outreach
- Attend weekly supervision with supervisor
- Complete timely progress notes and required paperwork within 48 hours to meet compliance mandates
- Conduct home visits and field work
- Create a weekly schedule approved by Supervisor
- Maintain case documentation in an orderly and complete manner
- Serve as a liaison with community resources
- Engage and support youth connected to the CFTSS Program
- Share personal knowledge and experiences about the youth serving system and resources available to youth
- Provide support to youth at community meetings and other meetings as needed
- Provide public education about youth mental health issues
- Assist in organizing social, recreational and educational activities for youth
- Represent the interests of youth with emotional and behavioral challenges in public forums and advisory groups
- Perform other duties as assigned
The Youth Peer Support Services Worker will be a young adult who has had emotional and/or behavioral challenges and experience receiving services from the children’s mental health or other child-serving systems. At least one (1) year of related experience is preferred. Completed High School or a G.E.D. program - some college preferred. Youth Peer Advocate will receive basic training in empowerment, peer support, self-help, peer advocacy and systems advocacy 101 and 102.
