Responsibilities

Reports to the clinical supervisor. Submit, compile, copy, and distribute HRA
2010e housing packages, CITY FHEPS shopping letters, and other applicable subsidy/vouchers. Escort and assist clients with medical, HRA/Social Security benefits, housing interviews and other housing‑related appointments. Serve as a liaison between the program and housing providers. Assist in tracking statistical data and data entry into various databases. Research resources, particularly permanent housing options for clients. Liaise with current providers and establish opportunities with new housing options.

Maintain correspondence relating to housing interviews. Assist clients to coordinate their move with DHS, landlords and other key personnel. Work with Transit ILS and Case managers to support clients in permanent housing. Provide outreach and canvassing to engage with clients, as needed. Will be assigned other related duties.

Hours

Full Time, 37.5 hours per week.

Tuesday–Saturday 11:00 am–7:30 pm.

Qualifications
  • BA/BS preferred.
  • Experience in processing housing applications such as NYCHA, Section 8, NY / NY 2010e, CITY FHEPS, SEPS and HUD‑VASH strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years working with clients on issues of homelessness, addictions, mental illness, entitlements and housing.
  • Demonstrable writing and communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Bi‑lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Fire Safety and First Aid/CPR certification or the ability to pass test to acquire these credentials required.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Vaccination preferred but not required.

Program Description

Jointly funded by the Department of Homeless Services and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, BRC’s Transit Homeless Outreach staff members operate throughout the transit system 24 hours a day. The program, operated since 2005 and expanded in 2014, provides outreach and case management services to humanely assist homeless individuals to permanently relocate from MTA properties. The program serves the NYC metropolitan area, including Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens.

Clients of Transit Homeless Outreach are engaged and assessed with the goal of connecting them with housing and essential services.
