Location: New York

Advocate Counselor – Part Time

The Home for Little Wanderers / Wediko NY seeks a part‑time Advocate Counselor for the High School for Hospitality Management in Manhattan. The position is 24 hours a week (three days a week) for a 10‑month term (September – June). Salary: $22.50–$25.50 per hour.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual and group mentoring to students on a weekly basis.
  • Provide outreach to students and their families, including phone calls, written correspondence, and home visits.
  • Facilitate communication among students, families, and school staff.
  • Complete required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Offer crisis support, conflict mediation, and social‑emotional support.
  • Complete regular assessments and provide resource referrals in support of school‑based services.
  • Ensure student exposure to further education opportunities and build college and career readiness skills.
  • Participate in staff meetings and staff development opportunities.
  • Collaborate on a transdisciplinary team with Wediko and school staff to create individualized plans supporting student progress.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree; social science degrees strongly preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience providing direct services in a school‑based or residential program.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills; proficiency in English.
  • Ability to approach challenges in a supportive and creative manner.
  • Commitment to working from a strengths‑based perspective.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development, proven use of supervision to improve practice.
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills.
