Children's Rescue Fund provides a base pay range of $47,000.00/yr. Actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.
Primary Function / PurposeThe Housing Specialist is responsible for all facets of client case management related to securing permanent housing. The role involves using HPD incentives and developing contacts with housing developers, ensuring clients understand NYCHA forms, and operating from the Cauldwell location in NYC to enable successful relocations.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, or Human Services is strongly preferred; at least a High School Diploma/GED is required.
- At least one year of experience in social services, counseling, crisis intervention, family services, preventive services, or housing services.
- Valid New York State driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
- Understand and explain the NYC Department of Homeless Services client responsibility procedures during intake.
- Ensure clients sign the "Permanent Housing Agreement" within 10 days of arrival.
- Maintain open communication with the Director of Social Services and Case Managers to resolve issues preventing housing.
- Ensure clients return the "Apartment Review" and/or "Client Apartment Rejection Form."
- Inform clients to visit/view two apartments per week and provide documentation.
- Complete and forward all relevant housing applications within 90 days of eligibility; keep copies in records.
- Use DHS CARES to complete intake assessment, service plan, housing, conference, incident reports, progress notes, etc.
- Review accessible information from HR Administration, Administration for Children Services, Department of Probation, etc., via CARES.
- Update information in the system timely as required by DHS.
- Document and follow up on housing appointments and applications.
- Verify all housing rejections and reason.
- Accompany families on housing searches when appropriate.
- Provide ongoing housing education through workshops and counseling.
- Provide suitable apartments for clients with domestic violence status if applicable.
- Meet and/or exceed the NYC Department of Homeless Services housing placement goals.
- Review DSS/APD Housing placements and projected placements weekly.
- Complete required reports.
- May be required to work long hours and varied schedule.
- Travel throughout New York City area.
- Lifting and moving objects up to 30 pounds several times a week.
