Benefits Specialist (Spanish Speaking)

Job Description:
We are seeking a Spanish-speaking Benefits Specialist to provide outreach, education, and enrollment assistance for SNAP, health insurance programs, NYC Care, and other low-income benefit programs. This role focuses on serving vulnerable communities across Manhattan and the Bronx by helping households understand eligibility requirements, complete applications, receive recertification support, and access additional resources. The ideal candidate is compassionate, patient, detail-oriented, and comfortable engaging directly with diverse populations.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct outreach and education at community sites and partner agencies
- Provide information on SNAP, health insurance options, NYC Care, and other benefit programs
- Attend community events, fairs, and forums, including occasional nontraditional hours
- Educate clients on SNAP eligibility and application requirements
- Prescreen households and individuals to determine potential eligibility
- Assist with SNAP applications through online tools such as Access HRA
- Provide post-application assistance and advocacy when needed
- Offer case management including periodic reports and case change forms
- Assist SNAP recipients with recertification using web-based systems
- Collaborate with partner agencies, internal departments, and SNAP Centers
- Connect clients with a Health Insurance Assistor when applicable
- Refer clients to additional programs such as Fair Fares, HEAP, WIC, tax preparation services, and others
- Document all services in Salesforce and other tracking systems
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Bilingual Spanish and English required
- Experience working with low-income communities preferred
- Background in public health, public administration, or human services preferred
- Knowledge of government benefit programs is a plus
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
- Comfort using online platforms and database systems
- Strong attention to detail and adherence to guidelines
- Ability to navigate barriers and support clients through complex processes
- Willingness to work some nontraditional hours
- Constant walking, sitting, bending, grasping, typing, and hand-eye coordination
- Frequent standing, climbing stairs, and carrying a laptop and files
- Occasional reaching, lifting 5 to 25 pounds, pushing, and pulling
- Willingness to travel throughout the five boroughs of New York City
- Primary locations include Manhattan and the Bronx
- Assigned community sites may vary based on a rotating schedule
