Full Time 35 hours per week, Tuesday-Friday 1:00pm - 9:00pm and Saturday 10:00am - 6:00pm
This position is 100% in-person. No remote work available

Position Overview

The Suicide Prevention Programs serve Hispanic/Latino, Black/African American, Asian American/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan Native and LGBTQI+ New York Youth and Young Adults ages 18-24. The Team Leader ensures an effective therapeutic milieu is established and ingrained in all aspects of the Suicide Prevention Program through best practices in their work with youth and families. The primary role is to establish healthy relationships with participants, provide guidance, modeling, and opportunities for youth as well as independent living and parenting skills.

The Family Counselor will form positive, supportive relationships with children and adults in caring, family and community-based environments, assist with coordination of services and communication of community-based resources, support the youth Peer Advocate (problem resolution and customer service; documentation), attend Child and Family Teams, and perform other duties as assigned (which may include mentoring children, assisting with living skills, providing respite for families, and other supportive services).

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate services and communicate community-based resources for youth and families
  • Provide support to the youth Peer Advocate, including problem resolution and documentation
  • Attend Child and Family Teams
  • Mentor children and assist with living skills; provide respite for families; deliver other supportive services as assigned
  • Engage with young adults in crisis, provide guidance and modeling of coping and independence skills
  • Maintain professional conduct and positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Health related field or Human Services
  • Experience working with young adults and conducting at-risk assessments
  • Ability to engage with others easily, coordinate with care coordinators and follow up in a timely manner
  • Community engagement and outreach
  • Provides academic and vocational support
  • Conduct risk assessments and wellness activities
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and/or weekend hours
  • Detail oriented with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm in crisis situations, work independently and cooperatively, recognize personal limitations, and relate positively and with empathy to all persons regardless of age, race, creed, gender or sexual orientation
  • Maintain professional conduct consistent with ethical professional practice and agency policies
  • Maintain professional demeanor and positive working relationships with internal/external teams
  • OMH Fingerprinting and Criminal Background Check is required
