The Underground Laborer supports the construction and installation of underground telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic and conduit systems. This role assists with trenching, conduit placement, hand digging, site preparation, and restoration while ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with installation of underground telecommunications infrastructure including fiber optic cable, conduit, handholes, vaults, and pedestals.
- Perform hand digging, trenching, and back filling to expose existing utilities and prepare pathways for new installations.
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites.
- Assist operators and technicians with directional drilling, boring, and trenching operations.
- Install and secure conduit systems and assist with cable placement and pulling operations.
- Perform site cleanup and restoration, including soil grading, seeding, and debris removal.
- Follow utility locates and maintain safe digging practices to avoid damage to existing infrastructure.
- Set up and maintain traffic control and work zone safety when required.
- Operate basic hand tools and construction equipment safely and effectively.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and safe work practices.
- Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and other departments to support project completion.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support construction and network deployment projects.

- Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred but not required).
- Ability to work flexible hours including occasional overtime or weekends depending on project needs.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous construction, telecommunications, or utility experience preferred but not required.
- Basic understanding of construction safety practices preferred.
- Work is primarily performed outdoors on construction sites.
- Exposure to dirt, dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
- Requires standing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and walking for extended periods.
- May require travel to various project locations.
