Maintenance Mechanic - Evening Shift

Location: Farmingdale

Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum is an award-winning cemetery with over 500 acres of land featuring wide sweeping green lawns, flowing fountains, stunning architecture, historical monuments, vibrant flower beds, and blossoming trees. We are seeking an experienced and detailed-oriented mechanic to contribute to our team in a demanding and growth-oriented environment. We are looking for a mechanic who can work 2nd shift (4pm start time) that likes variety, adapting, and fixing problems.

We self-service a full range of equipment from 2-cycle engines to Class A trucks, loaders, and trailers. No two days are the same! In this important role, your hard work and expertise directly allow our company to be successful. A qualified candidate should possess a strong history of delivering results in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Skills and Responsibilities:

* Troubleshoot, recommend, and make repairs, change tires, brakes, and perform preventative maintenance.

* Maintains condition of service vehicles, trailers, inventory, tools and equipment.

* Complete preventative maintenance, diesel and inspect equipment for repair needs.

* Perform complex on-site diagnostics and repairs to various equipment including, 2-cycle engines, commercial lawn and garden equipment.

* Support operations through repairs in the field, communication, and education of operators when possible.

* During the winter, participate in rotating shift schedule to support overnight snow operations.

* Keep track of repairs, time, and parts.

* Take ownership of organization of stock-parts, tools, and shop areas.

* Self-starter, able to prioritize, solve problems & operate without direct supervision.

* A Valid NY Driver's License and clean driving record.

* Physical requirements:

Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, reach.

* Ability to push/pull.

* Ability to lift/carry 50lbs.

* Ability to grasp tools.

* Able to do work involving repetitive motion.

* Able to work outdoors and in noisy environments.

Salary Range: $29.76 - $31.26 per hour based upon experience and skill level

Qualifications:

* 2+ years of hands-on mechanical experience working on equipment listed above or similar mechanical/electrical systems

* A keen eye for detail, and problem-solving.

* Strong electrical troubleshooting skills

* Ability to diagnose problems and complete repairs independently

* Highly self-motivated with strong time management and attention to detail

* A strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and fuel systems in various small engine models.

* Expert knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems used in the repair and/or maintenance of equipment and vehicles

* Ability to operate the equipment listed above, in addition to other commonly used landscaping equipment

* HS Diploma or GED preferred

* Certificate from a recognized vocational school is strongly preferred
