Maintenance Assistant, Residential Maintenance Services
Position Title:
Maintenance Assistant, Residential Maintenance Services.
Campus Living is accepting applications for the Maintenance Assistant position. In this role, you will work with a team of dynamic and diverse individuals to ensure that structures and equipment are installed correctly, properly maintained, and repaired as needed across UB’s North and South campuses. All Student Life trades, and custodial staff work within UB’s residential halls and apartments.
- Performs routine replacement and repair of plumbing equipment.
- Repairs and installs equipment such as dishwashers, laundry equipment, and repairs water‑lined leaks.
- Maintains and hangs signage.
- Completes semiskilled carpentry activities, including repairing doors, windows, stairs, railings, furniture, locks, and door hardware.
- Executes masonry and concrete repairs or installations.
- Paints and makes repairs to vacant living spaces.
- Installs light fixtures, outlets, and switches.
- Repairs electrical equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
• Two years of full‑time maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
• OR completion of an appropriate two‑year technical school course or an equivalent combination of experience and training, such as the NYS CSEA‑P Applied Skilled Trades Certificate Program (288 hours of trade‑specific instruction, 45 hours of technical math, 45 hours of technical communications, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading).
• When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Preferred Qualifications
• Additional technical training or experience in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or masonry.
• Demonstrated proficiency in reading building plans and schematics.
• Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
Departmental Operating Needs
• Working knowledge of safety standards and procedures.
• Awareness of applicable NYS codes and regulations.
• Willingness to travel within and between campuses and off‑campus sites.
• Strong customer‑service skills and effective communication.
• Reliable attendance and professionalism—may serve as a supervisor for designated staff.
Routine tasks require light to moderately heavy physical effort. The ability to stand, ascend/descend, position oneself to complete tasks, and work at elevated heights using ladders and scaffolds for extended periods is required.
Compensation & Work Details- Salary Range: $42,641
