Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full‑Time Entry Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Long Island City, New York.

• Hourly Pay: $34.24 per hour
• Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE Certification obtained, up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 per quarter
• Tool Box/Tool Allowance
• Schedule:
  
  Monday–Friday, weekends off
• Hours:
  
  Second Shift 2:30 pm – 11:00 pm

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
• Basic tools required
• One (1) year or more experience in transportation maintenance (preferred)
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
• Ability to understand and communicate effectively
• Work shift and weekend availability as required
• Demonstrate mechanical aptitude
• Knowledge of and ability to apply knowledge of computers
• Some experience in transportation maintenance preferred

• Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
• Pass a Ryder drug test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Pass a Ryder road test
• Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug/alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years

Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check; a road test; and/or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.

• Perform basic vehicle maintenance
• Perform component identification and minor repairs
• Perform preventive maintenance with training and support
• Perform facility maintenance duties
• Perform all entry‑level tasks
• Diagnose minor mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
• Perform other related duties as assigned
