Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Position Description
Immediately hiring a Permanent Full‑Time Entry Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Long Island City, New York.
Pay & Benefits- Hourly Pay: $34.24 per hour
- Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE Certification obtained, up to $700
- Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 per quarter
- Tool Box/Tool Allowance
- Schedule:
Monday–Friday, weekends off - Hours:
Second Shift 2:30 pm – 11:00 pm - On the Job Paid Training

Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Basic tools required
- One (1) year or more experience in transportation maintenance (preferred)
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively
- Work shift and weekend availability as required
- Demonstrate mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of and ability to apply knowledge of computers
- Some experience in transportation maintenance preferred
- Must be able to obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass a Ryder drug test
- Pass a DOT physical
- Pass a Ryder road test
- Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug/alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification; motor vehicle records check; a road test; and/or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.
Responsibilities- Perform basic vehicle maintenance
- Perform component identification and minor repairs
- Perform preventive maintenance with training and support
- Perform facility maintenance duties
- Perform all entry‑level tasks
- Diagnose minor mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computer when applicable
- Perform other related duties as assigned
