Position: Barker, NY- Lvl 2 Cable Tech
Location: Barker

Role Overview

The Low Voltage Technician is responsible for completing pre‑termination procedures, installing and dressing cables, supporting structured cabling systems, and ensuring all work meets company and customer standards for quality and safety. This role requires strong technical skills, professionalism, and attention to detail, as well as the ability to support project crews and ensure efficient performance.

Core Responsibilities Pre‑Termination & Installation

+ Perform pre‑termination procedures including organizing, forming, dressing cables, determining length and slack, and labeling cables.

+ Suspend and support cables using proper methods such as cable tray, J‑hooks, D‑rings, bridal rings, and trapeze.

+ Build and install closets, including backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and related hardware.

+ Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling as required.

Technical Experience Requirements

+ Experience pulling fiber optic cable

+ Experience testing with Fluke testers

+ Experience terminating copper and fiber

+ Experience "dressing" cable is a plus

Job Duties

+ Install work area outlets for floor or wall, including termination of CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks.

+ Mount faceplates and surface‑mount boxes according to company labeling standards.

+ Build and install telecom closets, including backboards, racks, patch panels, fiber hardware, and grounding.

+ Complete all IDC connections such as 110/66 blocks and patch panels.

+ Perform cable testing including continuity tests, use of volt‑ohmmeters, troubleshooting opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs on horizontal/riser cables, and use of a tone set.

+ Identify active voice or data circuits.

+ Take responsibility for crew performance, provide training, and coordinate personnel and timelines to meet project schedules.

+ Complete all company paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, etc.).

+ Adhere to all company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards.

+ Complete other responsibilities as assigned.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Barker, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr.
