Overview
Location:
Brooklyn, NY --- Onsite
- Electrical work:
Minor electrical repairs. This may include replacing lighting fixtures, socket outlets, or light switches. They also try to troubleshoot minor electrical issues, such as blown fuses. - Plumbing repairs:
Fixing plumbing problems such as clogged drains, leaky taps, or broken pipes. A handyman may also be required to install fixtures, such as toilets and sinks. - Carpentry:
This may involve assembling furniture and building shelves, repairing doors, and mending broken fences. Generally, a handyman should be able to handle minor carpentry work. - Painting:
Painting or retouching surfaces in residential and commercial buildings. Tasks may also extend to repairing drywall. - General Maintenance:
This may include odd jobs like repairing windows, installing blinds or curtains, fixing small appliances, or replacing filters in HVAC systems. - In addition, a handyman may also be responsible for keeping detailed and accurate records of inspections, maintenance works, and repairs carried out.
- A high school diploma or GED. This provides some assurance of a basic understanding of the job demands and required communication skills.
- Some professional certification. Depending on specific local laws, a handyman may not need certifications to work, but it helps to have some professional certification in one area or another.
- Fitness requirements. Heavy lifting, climbing, bending, and reaching, which requires a certain level of physical fitness.
- Good communication skills. Handymen must be able to listen accurately to client needs and communicate solutions, costs, and timelines clearly to avoid confusion.

- Resolving minor electrical, plumbing, and HVAC issues, such as replacing light bulbs, fixing clogged pipes, or replacing AC filters.
- Handling carpentry jobs, such as installing furniture or repairing doors.
- Handling odd jobs around the facility.
- Using various hand and power tools without supervision.
- Detecting and reporting major maintenance or repair needs.
- Providing support and guidance on maintaining equipment.
- Managing an accurate inventory of repair supplies and maintenance equipment to ensure that all stocks are replenished on time.
- Keeping an accurate record of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- A minimum of 2 years working experience in a similar role.
- Extensive experience with plumbing and electrical systems.
- A working knowledge of common hardware tools and power equipment.
- Good communication skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification required.
- Exposure to weather elements like rain, snow, heat, or cold during outdoor tasks.
- Occasional work in tight or confined spaces (crawl spaces, attics, basements).
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials, such as chemicals, dust, or mold.
- Working at height on ladders.
- Loud noises from power tools.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
- Manual dexterity and precision in the use of hand and power tools.
- Good balance, stamina, and strength for prolonged physical labor.
- Ability to work in awkward positions or tight spaces.
- Must be able to climb ladders or work at height.
