About the RoleThe Mechanic role is critical in ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of diesel trucks and related heavy machinery. This position involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex diesel engines, braking systems, and hydraulic components to minimize downtime and extend vehicle lifespan. The successful candidate will work closely with a team to troubleshoot fuel systems, alternators, and other mechanical parts, ensuring all repairs meet industry standards and safety regulations.
Attention to detail and a strong understanding of diesel mechanics and associated systems are essential to prevent failures and maintain operational efficiency. Ultimately, this role supports the transportation and logistics operations by keeping the fleet in excellent working condition through expert mechanical service and maintenance.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy vehicle mechanic, with hands-on expertise in diesel engines and braking systems.
- Strong knowledge of diesel truck systems including hydraulics, fuel systems, and alternators.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate heavy vehicles as needed.
- Certification from a recognized institution such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) in diesel mechanics.
- Experience working with computerized diagnostic equipment and software.
- Familiarity with environmental and safety regulations related to diesel vehicle maintenance.
- Additional training or certification in hydraulics or fuel system repair.
- Prior experience in a fleet maintenance environment.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on diesel trucks and heavy equipment, including brakes, fuel systems, and hydraulic components.
- Diagnose mechanical issues using diagnostic tools and manual inspection, focusing on diesel engines, alternators, and braking systems.
- Repair or replace defective parts such as gaskets, fuel injectors, and hydraulic lines to restore vehicle functionality.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize repairs and manage workflow efficiently.
The required skills such as expertise in brakes, diesel engines, and fuel systems are applied daily to diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues, ensuring vehicles operate safely and efficiently. Knowledge of hydraulics and braking systems is essential for maintaining critical vehicle functions and preventing breakdowns. Skills in working with gaskets and alternators support the replacement and repair of key engine components, contributing to overall vehicle reliability.
Preferred skills like certification and experience with diagnostic tools enhance the mechanic’s ability to quickly identify problems and implement effective solutions.
