Asphalt Plant Groundsman

Location: Rensselaer

Local Asphalt Plant in Rensselaer, NY seeks to fill an immediate opening for a self-motivated reliable Asphalt Plant Groundsman (Laborer). Candidates must have experience in asphalt operations and be able to work long hours during the construction season; including some night shifts. This position reports to the Asphalt Plant Manager and has no supervisory responsibility. Opportunity for growth, for the right person!

General Duties:

• Ensure equipment preventative maintenance is performed timely, thoroughly and correctly at all times
• Ensure all equipment meets or exceeds all safety standards
• Willingness to perform duties outside normal scope of work (i.e. work in poor weather conditions or outside normal hours)
• Responsible for daily maintenance tasks to maintain our stationary asphalt plant;
• Maintain the general plant area by cleaning obstacles and hazards
• Perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks
• Assist plant operator and other skilled labor when necessary
• Load or unload construction materials
• Operate hand tools and power tools
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate PPE at all times
• Cross-train with applicable positions

Qualifications:

• Previous loader or skidsteer operating experience also a plus, but not required.
• Excellent communication skills with co-workers as well as customers
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent multitasking skills and able to prioritize projects in a busy environment
• Able to operate with minimal supervision.
• A background in mechanics, maintenance, welding, or around equipment etc. a plus!

Requirements:

• General knowledge of construction materials, tools, and equipment
• Must meet and follow all safety requirements and applicable safety policies

• Must be punctual, have a strong work ethic, and maintain a good attendance record.
• Must be able to work as a team on all projects
• Lift/move up to 50 lbs.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Work overtime, nights, weekends, as needed

• Stand for extended periods of time
• Reliable transportation
• Represent New Castle Asphalt with integrity and professionalism
