Park Worker 3 - Rockland Lake State Park
Location: Valley Cottage, NY – Rockland Lake State Park, 299 Rockland Lake Rd., Valley Cottage, NY 10989.
Position: Park Worker 3 – Rockland Lake State Park
Salary: Salary Grade 09, $46,641 – $56,413 annually.
Employment: Full‑time, Permanent appointment, Non‑competitive Class, Workweek 40 hours. Workday from 12 AM to 11:30 PM; weekends and holidays may be required.
Duties- Perform routine maintenance on power‑driven mechanical equipment (trucks, tractors, mowers, power saws).
- Operate self‑propelled equipment and load/unload cargo from vehicles and storage.
- Perform building and ground maintenance, cleaning activities, and assist with semi‑skilled maintenance in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and mechanical repairs under a skilled tradesperson.
- Assist in general swimming pool maintenance and operation.
- Assign, supervise, review, train, and evaluate work of lower‑level employees.
- Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures, directing staff, and working with patrons to minimize potential problems.
- Assist in snow removal (shoveling, plowing vehicles) during winter months.
- Assist in pruning and tree trimming (chainsaws, stump grinders, bucket trucks, chippers).
- Assist in building and repairing roads, paths, picnic tables, benches, trails, and park equipment.
- Manage traffic control and parking of vehicles.
- Assist in other areas of park operations as needed.
- Communicate effectively with staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner, both orally and in writing.
- One year of experience in operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility (or related field such as law enforcement, firefighting, environmental education, etc.).
- OR one year of military service in any branch.
- OR an Associate’s degree or higher (or 60 college credits).
- OR completion of a two‑year technical/trades program or two years’ experience as a trades assistant under a skilled tradesperson.
Verifiable part‑time and volunteer experience may be accepted and prorated.
Operating Needs- Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
- Must perform medium to heavy physical labor.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license for operating a motor vehicle in New York State.
- Must operate a chainsaw and complete OPRHP Sawyer Training (or equivalent) within the probationary period and maintain it.
- Must possess a Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO) certification or complete the Pool Operator Training Session (POTS) within the probationary period.
