Junior Commercial Solar Installer

Compensation: $22-$27 per hour

Job Type: Full-Time

NY State Solar sells, designs, and builds high-quality solar energy systems across New York State. Our mission is to deliver an outstanding customer experience while helping New York become more economically and environmentally sustainable.

We are seeking a Junior Commercial Solar Installer to support the construction and installation of commercial solar PV systems. This role works under the direction of the Site Foreman and collaborates closely with project teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality installations.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Install commercial solar PV systems in accordance with project plans and safety standards
  • Layout and assemble solar modules, racking systems, and mounting hardware
  • Perform mechanical and structural mounting of racking, modules, and electrical equipment
  • Complete basic AC and DC electrical wiring
  • Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and equipment
  • Maintain clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant job sites
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and follow PPE and fall-protection protocols
  • Track materials and assist with on-site inventory
  • Attend required training on installation techniques and safety procedures
  • Work at heights and in varying weather conditions
  • Travel to job sites as required and report on time
  • Represent NY State Solar professionally at all times
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of solar installation or relevant construction experience
  • Comfortable working at heights; no fear of ladders or rooftops
  • Ability to lift and carry 50–70 lbs
  • Physically able to stand, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive tasks
  • Comfortable working in extreme weather conditions
  • Basic electrical knowledge preferred (AC/DC a plus)
  • OSHA 10 required or willingness to obtain
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to work overtime and Saturdays as needed
