- Supervise a crew of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled personnel in maintenance, repair, installation, and construction activities of the New York State Fairgrounds facilities, property, and equipment.
- Perform skilled journey‑level trades work in at least one specific skilled trade (a combination of skilled and semiskilled duties is acceptable).
- Manage one of four maintenance shops:
Paint, Plumbing, Carpentry, or Automotive – each shop has specific responsibilities detailed below. - Ensure all work is completed in accordance with applicable codes, specifications, and safety regulations.
- Paint Shop
:
Prepare surfaces, apply coats of paint, varnish, finishes, and stains; supervise and instruct others in these tasks. - Plumbing Shop
:
Install, alter, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, ventilation, and drainage systems per specifications and plumbing codes. - Carpentry Shop
:
Perform journey‑level carpentry work, including construction and repair of structures, roofing, millwork, furniture construction, finishing, and cabinet work; install and adjust door hardware and lock work. - Automotive Shop
:
Supervise and perform skilled mechanical work in automotive repair, including maintenance, repair, and overhaul of gasoline, diesel, and alternative‑fuel equipment; conduct routine maintenance on vehicles and other equipment for the fairgrounds.
- One year of trade experience subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training, applicable to any of the following specialties:
Carpenter, Electrician, Electronics Repair, Generalist, Ground Construction Supervisor, Locksmith, Machinist, Mason & Plasterer, Motor Equipment Repair, Painter, Plumber & Steamfitter, HVAC‑R Repair, Roofing, or Welder. - Non-competitive class; no tenure rights until five years of continuous service.

- Paid time off: 5 days personal, 13 vacation days, 13 sick days, 13 paid holidays in first year.
- Potential eligibility for the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).
- Participation in the New York State Performance Evaluation Program; yearly performance advances may increase salary toward the SG‑14 rate of $68,630.
