Job Description: To provide semi‑skilled work in a designated Trade Shop and perform routine and varied unskilled tasks in service and trades. Responsible for preparing the work area and dismantling it once the Trade mechanic designates that the scope of work is completed.
Responsibilities and Duties- Maintains the designated Trade Shop in a safe and functional manner.
- Conducts supply inventory for the designated Trade Shop, including all personal protective equipment (PPE) and first aid supplies. Periodically checks equipment, such as ladders and power tools, mechanical rooms, and updates the maintenance logbook and/or work order system.
- Assists the designated Trade Mechanic in preparing for a scheduled work assignment and accompanies the Mechanic to the work location. May be required to prepare the work location.
- Carries out work assignments under the direction of a trade mechanic or supervisor, but must be able to work independently as required.
- Erects and dismantles rigs, scaffolds, and ladders as needed to support trade mechanics in the completion of assigned tasks, ensuring all structures are secure and compliant with safety regulations.
- Cleans and maintains surface areas of work locations, ensuring job sites are kept orderly, safe, and free of debris throughout the duration of the project/work assignment.
- Performs assigned work tasks in accordance with standard trade practices and ensures all work conforms to established specifications, codes, and quality standards.
- Performs daily clean‑up of the work area and takes proactive measures to minimize dust and debris to the lowest level possible.
- May be required to respond to facilities‑related emergencies and may need to work overtime, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to support campus operations.
- May be directed or scheduled to work with limited or no supervision, and to cover any campus‑wide shift.
- May be directed to perform repairs in mechanical rooms or typical campus facilities, including classrooms, offices, residence halls, apartment units, stores, and public spaces, as needed to support ongoing maintenance and operations.
- Adheres to all safety protocols and organizational procedures to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established college, City, State, and Federal standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school graduate or GED.
- Capable of using general hand and power tools.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience of working a mechanical job.
- Ability to read and write English and follow oral and written instructions.
- Able to bend, stoop, push, pull, lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.; requires average physical strength.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- Ability to work in high altitudes and perform work from a ladder, genie or scaffold.
$25.00/hr regular rate – $22.50/hr probationary rate. There is a 180 day probationary period. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible at the time of posting.
