To achieve its mission, New Destiny builds and manages housing with on-site services; offers innovative programs that assist survivors in finding and retaining affordable housing; and works to expand access to permanent housing resources for survivors.

New Destiny is the largest provider of supportive housing for domestic violence survivors in New York and is a leading advocate in the effort to obtain the resources needed to end family homelessness in New York City

Job Purpose

The Field Technician will be traveling to different locations to install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot equipment or systems on-site, essentially acting as a problem solver by providing technical support and ensuring the proper function of machinery. This role is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance, repair, and renovation tasks to ensure the smooth operation and improvement of residential properties. Additionally, this role will serve as the maintenance superintendent of 307 East 54th Street, performing general repairs throughout the building, mopping, and sweeping the stairwells, and trash/recycling removal three times a week.

and Responsibilities
  • Maintain company customer service standards by responding to direction from the Facilities Manager and complying with tenants and building requests.
  • Diagnose and repair issues related to electrical, plumbing, major appliances, carpentry, emergency systems, flooring, painting, sheetrock, etc.
  • Coordinate and complete service requests and general maintenance tasks in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools and materials are stored properly.
  • Conduct routine inspections with the Facilities Manager to identify maintenance needs and perform preventative tasks.
  • Ability to multitask and complete jobs within specific time frames, prioritizing emergency repairs and needs throughout the portfolio.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Maintain professionalism and care while servicing tenant apartments, commit to training in trauma- informed care practices.
  • Other tasks as requested by the Facilities Manager.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and car is required to travel between job sites.
  • Experience in general maintenance is required.
  • Experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and general renovations is required.
  • Plumbing and electrical licenses preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Bilingual in both English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot various issues independently.
  • Comfortability with using a computer and phone for consistent communication with staff and tenants.

The hourly range for this position is between $28-$32. This is a full-time position with a benefits package including medical, dental, vision, short disability, PTO paid holidays and 401(k). EOE
