The Plumber performs repair, replacement and maintenance of plumbing, steam systems, and fixtures. This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Main

Job Duties
  • Perform preventive maintenance on plumbing and steam systems and close work orders upon completion.
  • Pack and replace valves, lay out and install cast iron, copper, steam, reheat, vacuum, and medical gas piping.
  • Hook up and install new plumbing fixtures and pertinent equipment; replace sinks, tubs, showers, vents, drains, water lines, oxygen and medical gas lines.
  • Work with lead, copper, galvanized, black steel, and plastic pipes; solder with W/50/50 and 95/5 and braze.
  • Perform new construction and alteration jobs.
  • Remove, cap or relocate non‑essential services.
  • Rough in new bathrooms, sinks, sterilizers, sprinklers, oxygen and medical gas outlets.
  • Relocate risers where needed to accommodate new partitions; install and test vacuum and medical gas piping and outlets in operating, patient, delivery rooms, and medical units.
  • Install and test new reheat piping for reheat coils in air‑conditioning ductwork.
  • Install and test new steam piping for humidifiers, steam coils, sterilizers, air handlers; install and test water, waste, steam, and air piping for sterilizers; install and test new and relocated sprinklers.
  • Insulate new hot and cold water, reheat, steam, and chilled water piping; coordinate with other trades to increase efficiency and avoid duplication of effort.

This full‑time position is located at New York-Presbyterian / Lower Manhattan Hospital.

Shift Details

Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

Required Criteria
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Minimum of three years of plumbing experience.
  • New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Torch Use of Flammable Gases (G‑60).
  • New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Fireguard (F‑60).
  • New York City Fire Department Certificate of Fitness for Standpipe/Sprinkler (S‑12/S‑13).
Salary Range

$42.59 – $45.39 per hour.
