Location: Town of Pittsford

Casella Construction is seeking to hire a Field Service Technician to join our Maintenance team in Pittsford, Vermont. The Field Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy equipment in the field. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities
  • Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of heavy equipment, including diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other mechanical components.
  • Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on heavy equipment. This includes using ECM (Engine Control Module) diagnostic tools to identify and resolve engine performance issues.
  • Perform metal fabrication tasks such as cutting, shaping, and welding to repair or modify equipment components.
  • Provide excellent customer service by effectively communicating with clients, explaining repairs, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate records of service calls, including work performed, parts used, and time spent on each job.
  • Source and order necessary parts for repairs, manage inventory of replacement parts, and ensure tools and equipment are well-maintained.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Additionally, comply Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) requirements when working in mining environments.
  • Travel to various job sites to perform on-site repairs and maintenance, often requiring flexibility and adaptability to different working conditions.
  • Consult equipment operating manuals, blueprints, and drawings to understand equipment specifications and repair procedures.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and lubricating parts to ensure optimal equipment performance.
  • Overhaul and test major components, such as engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems.
  • Disassemble and reassemble heavy equipment and components as needed for repairs.
  • Maintain logs of equipment condition and work performed to ensure accurate service records.
  • Training requirements, both in person and online, as needed or required.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in heavy equipment repair is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools; strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Experience with ECM diagnostics and metal fabrication is highly desirable.
  • Relevant certifications in heavy equipment repair and maintenance are a plus.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, work in various weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Certifications in heavy equipment or diesel mechanics.
  • Proficiency in advanced diagnostic tools and software for troubleshooting complex issues, including Advanced CAT Diagnostics.
  • Training in hydraulic and pneumatic systems repair.
  • Strong communication skills for effective customer interaction and teamwork.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments, including remote and potentially hazardous locations.
  • Previous experience working in the field with heavy equipment, particularly in industries such as construction, mining, or agriculture.
  • Completion of OSHA 511 Occupational Safety and Standards for General Industry.
