Description: The Aircraft Mechanic I inspects, troubleshoots malfunctions, rigs, repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and aircraft systems of moderate difficulty. This mechanic repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment such as shears, sheet metal brake, rivet gun, and drills. Inspects components/repairs for structural serviceability according to specifications and technical publications.
Removes and installs close tolerance, high-strength fasteners in major aircraft structural components. Manufactures with the use of jigs, fixtures, forms, and molds to fabricate repair or replacement parts. Uses advanced metalworking practices, equipment, and tools to form, cut, bend, and fasten replacement or repair parts to damaged structures and components. Applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies required expertise in restoring equipment condition and/or operation;
applies comprehensive technical expertise to solve moderate to complex problems. This worker reads and interprets manufacturers and maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. Duties may include requirements to adjust, repair, or replace electrical system wiring and aircraft accessories; perform preflight, thru-flight, and basic post-flight maintenance inspections, perform as Refuel/Defuel, Jack and Tow Team member/supervisor.
Individual may also be required to perform other miscellaneous aircraft servicing to include, but not limited to Lox, Hydraulic and Engine Oil, service aircraft tire and perform aircraft lubes.
- Inspect components/repairs for structural serviceability according to specifications and technical publications.

- Interpret manufacturers and maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine repair or replacement methods.
- Adjust, repair, or replace electrical system wiring and aircraft accessories; perform preflight, thru-flight, and basic post-flight inspections; assist with Refuel/Defuel, Jack and Tow operations as assigned.
- Perform other miscellaneous aircraft servicing (e.g., Lox, Hydraulic, Engine Oil), service aircraft tires, and perform aircraft lubes.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years aircraft structural maintenance experience.
- Thorough knowledge of aircraft structural and mechanical systems; ability to solve moderate to complex problems.
- Ability to interpret technical orders, blueprints, or other written guidance to accomplish repairs, replacements or modifications of structural components.
- Broad working knowledge of C-130J/H aircraft systems including hydraulics, structures, engines, refuel pods, and electrical systems.
- Experience performing periodic and other hourly, special, or calendar inspections.
- Basic knowledge of electrical theory and knowledge of aircraft tools (test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, etc.).
- Proficient with USAF Technical Orders, DTADS, AFTO 781 forms, and entering data into IMDS.
- Experience logging entries in aircraft records and prioritizing workload to meet schedules.
- Experience with aircraft launch/recovery, preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight inspections; familiarity with handling HAZMAT/HAZWASTE materials.
- Six (6) years of experience on at least one AFSOC C-130 MDS.
- Heavy structures modification experience on C-130J.
