OverviewIf you are looking to grow your career in Utilities Maintenance, Pinellas County Government will keep you on track. The Utilities Operations Specialist 3 is skilled in technical work involving specialized testing, maintenance, and repair of utilities systems equipment, lines, or devices. Employees in this class perform routine and preventive maintenance on a variety of utilities systems and devices. Duties may include supervising skilled and semi‑skilled employees, and work is performed in accordance with established procedures, but requires initiative and independent judgment.
Responsibilities- Lead person of a small to medium‑sized construction crew installing, maintaining and repairing water, sewer, and reclaimed apparatuses.
- Perform and direct visual inspection of sewer lines.
- Install clean‑outs and backflow devices.
- Perform related work as assigned or required.
- High school diploma or GED and 3 years of skilled utilities field experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker endorsement upon hire.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Level 3 Water Distribution System Operator License obtained in accordance with Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 62‑602, Drinking Water and Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators upon hire.
- Possession and maintenance of Temporary Traffic Control Certification within 9 months of employment.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
- Candidate may be required to perform manual labor for extended periods occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to operate medium to large excavating equipment.
- Working knowledge of GIS mapping system for water, sewer, and reclaimed infrastructure.
