- Uniformed Security Guard – Multiple Locations
Makes scheduled routine patrols of library (internally and external grounds) and other library facilities when required as well as special events as needed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Makes scheduled routine patrols of library (internally and external grounds) and other library facilities when required as well as special events as needed.
- Checks door and window locks to ensure security, discourages loitering and prevents trespassing by unauthorized persons.
Protects agency’s collection by monitoringsecuritygate systems as well as Queens Public Library assets and property. - May be assigned to operate elevators and monitor the 1stfloor lobbysecurityconsole as needed. Verifies employee identification, greets visitors and issues approved visitor passes.
- Maintains order in the library and enforces library policies intervening in situations involving customers and/or employees that pose a threat to the safety of persons in the Library, patrols areas and reports on potential fire hazards, water leaks, etc., monitors book/materials theft detection gates and use of public access equipment and facilities, i.e. catalog terminals, computers, copy machines, change machines, restrooms, etc.
- Monitors all secured areas in the facility assuring that areas are protected and appropriate doors are locked. Maintains the log book at the Librarysecurityconsole and completes entries and reports when necessary.
- Uses Library issued portable radios and safeguards the radio during and at the end of their tour.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment as well as assisting customers in need of emergency aide.
Responsible for directing staff and customers in a safe manner to exit the library during fire drills and any other emergency evacuations. - Assists in closing procedures ensuring that bathrooms and public areas are clear of customers and staff, and that all customers and staff have properly exited the facility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The schedule for this position will include evenings, overnight shifts and weekends.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:- High School or Equivalency Diploma required.
- New York State Guard License required.
- Certificate of Fire WatchGuardF
03 issued by the New York City Fire Department preferred. - 6 months of full-timesecurityexperience required.
- Must have proficient writing and communication skills.

Use of telephone, copier, fax, desktop computer and other office equipment. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. May use a computer/video display terminal for up to 8 hours per day. Ability to stand for up to 8 hours per day.

This is a union position, represented by District Council 37. The starting annual salary is $39,816.
