Duties & Responsibilities- Patrol designated areas and public buildings, maintaining order and safeguarding life and property against fire, vandalism, theft, and other threats.
- Screens employees and visitors, operating and monitoring security equipment, and giving routine information to visitors and clients.
- Discourages and ejects loiterers; arrests and issues summonses to law violators on premises.
- Transports, escorts, or arranges transport of persons in custody to police precincts, prepares and transmits arrest documentation, and testifies in court on arrests.
- Makes written entries into location log books and records daily actions in memo books.
- Responds to and reports emergency and security instances by telephone or radio, implements the Emergency Action Plan, and coordinates with Fire Safety Directors.
- Provides assistance to the sick, injured, or disabled, and calls for emergency assistance, ambulance, or medical attention when necessary.
- Administers first aid if properly certified and authorized.
- Operates a motor vehicle and may assist in supervising contracted security guards.
- Monitors and controls access via electronic security measures, such as security video technology and access control systems, and operates hydraulic access devices as needed.
- Attends, completes, and maintains State and NYC H+H training requirements.
- Maintains and updates bulletin boards, maintains databases, and supervises the preparation and maintenance of a system of records and reports.
- Supervises and evaluates performance of subordinate staff and security guards; plans and coordinates staff and equipment assignments.
- Directs and trains subordinates, reprimands poor performance, and monitors compliance with policies.
- Conducts roll call, inspects officers and assigned work areas, and responds to emergency situations.
- Investigates, supervises, and assists subordinates in handling serious incidents; determines need for police assistance.
- Interprets and enforces policy directives, prepares reports, and advises superiors on potential dangerous or unusual situations.
- Participates in decisions related to plant layout, acts as liaison to other locations, and appears in court when required.
- Formulates and approves security arrangements, regulations, and procedures to align with agency policies.
- Coordinates with the landlord for evacuation/fire safety procedures and conducts drills.
- Ensures database access control system issuance and replacement, and maintains database integrity.
- Extracts information from computer and video records, advises executives on security matters, and plans training programs.
- Monitors staff training needs, maintains liaison with law enforcement agencies, and prepares budget requests.
- Conducts special studies and investigations as required.
- Four‑year high school diploma or equivalent and one year of full‑time satisfactory experience in law enforcement, protection, or security; OR
- Individualized Education Program (IEP) diploma and eighteen months of full‑time satisfactory experience as described above.
- Current New York State Peace Officer certification.
- In addition to Level I qualifications, four years of satisfactory experience as a Special Officer, with at least two years as a Supervising Special Officer Level I; OR
- Four years of full‑time satisfactory experience in law enforcement, protection, or security, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
- A valid New York State motor vehicle driver license may be required for appointment to certain positions; if required, the license must be maintained throughout employment.
