Job Description :
The New York Post is synonymous with sports. From iconic back pages to breaking coverage that drives daily conversation, NYP has long been a dominant voice in the sports media landscape. We are seeking a seasoned advertising sales leader to capitalize on that strength and further expand our sports advertising revenue.
Sports Account DirectorThis position will be responsible for driving strategic revenue growth across NYP’s sports portfolio, including digital, print, branded content, sponsor ships, and integrated marketing partnerships. It will report directly to the COO and oversee a small sports sales team. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, proactive, and ready to lead; setting the pace for revenue generation and ensuring the team consistently meets and exceeds sales targets.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute a strategic revenue plan to grow revenue across NYP’s sports vertical.
- Leverage an existing book of business and established relationships with agencies and brand marketers to drive immediate revenue impact.
- Identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities within key sports advertising categories, including betting/gaming, apparel, automotive, consumer goods, and entertainment.
- Partner cross-functionally with editorial, Post Studios, marketing, Social, Video, and product teams to create compelling, high-impact advertising solutions aligned with NYP’s sports audience.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a small sports-focused ad sales team, setting clear performance expectations and fostering a culture of accountability and urgency.
- Establish proactive outreach strategies to ensure consistent pipeline development and revenue growth.
- Own forecasting, reporting, and revenue tracking; provide regular updates to senior leadership.
- Represent NYP Sports in the marketplace, reinforcing our leadership position in sports journalism and advertising innovation.
- Ensure the team delivers best-in-class client service and maintains long-term strategic partnerships.
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in advertising sales, with a strong focus on media and publishing.
- Significant experience selling advertising solutions for sports-focused media brands or publishers strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated track record of meeting and exceeding revenue targets in competitive markets.
- Established book of business with active agency and brand relationships.
- Deep understanding of the sports advertising landscape, including key buyers, decision-makers, and industry trends.
- Experience leading or mentoring sales teams, with strong people management capabilities.
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to close complex, multi-platform deals.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to operate both at a high level and in day-to-day execution.
- Highly motivated, results-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced media environment.
This position follows our hybrid work model; however, in-office expectations may adjust based on business needs.
CompensationBase salary of $125,000–$175,000, plus a sales bonus/commission plan. On-target earnings (OTE) of $250,000–$350,000 are based on achieving 100% of sales goals, with upside potential of up to 200% of the sales bonus for exceeding targets.
