What’s the role?The Surgical Application Specialist (SAS) manages a territory by providing training support and sales assistance for ZEISS surgical products. You will support clinical efforts, train customers on surgical applications, monitor surgery days, review data collection, and import data from ancillary clinical products. The goal is to facilitate optimal use of all instruments in the ZEISS Surgical Suite and build a powerful referral base.
Here’swhat you’ll do
- Efficiently manage territory, contact customers, schedule on‑site training appointments, arrange travel, and address inquiries.
- Deliver high‑level, tailored training for physicians and staff in medical device operation and clinical applications, answering complex questions with professionalism.
- Conduct follow‑up visits, monitor customer commitment using the ZEISS Surgical Suite, and provide feedback to management and the sales team.
- Possess in‑depth knowledge of surgical ophthalmic industry and competitive devices.
- Resourcefully manage on‑site training within the United States, arranging travel to meet customer needs.
- Represent ZEISS professionally and courteously.
- Collaborate with adjacent SAS territories to coordinate on‑site training for “border” customers and assist in training completion as business needs arise.
- Maintain up‑to‑date product knowledge on all ZEISS products.
- Communicate promptly, respectfully, and professionally with team members, including field service engineers and other colleagues.
- Work with marketing and surgical sales to ensure training materials reflect current features.
- Attend trade shows, conferences, exhibits, and seminars as needed.
- Serve as the customer subject‑matter expert on the Surgical Suite, taking ownership of challenging situations and ensuring resolution.
- Identify and communicate sales leads, influencing purchasing decisions.
- Provide sales support as required.
- Administer necessary records and tools (calendar, expense reports, CRM & Product Training Checklists) accurately and timely.
- Demonstrate flexibility with territory realignment when business conditions change.
- Support training of new SAS and Sales Representatives both technically and administratively.
- Provide feature improvement feedback to product managers.
- Support management with field issue resolution.
- Develop and present training content at conventions, seminars, and corporate meetings.
- Support training of Surgical Suite ancillary instruments for general ODx products when scheduled.
- Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in an ophthalmic surgical setting or comparable role.
- In‑depth knowledge of cataract surgery, IOL calculations, ocular anatomy and pathology related to ophthalmic surgery.
- Industry‑standard credentialing held.
- Strong communication and teaching skills for direct customer engagement in a surgical environment.
- Exceptional judgment and decision‑making within defined procedures and practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Capacity to manage difficult situations and interact harmoniously with personnel at all levels.
- Willingness to travel overnight and work occasional weekends.
- Well‑organized and capable of independent work without supervision.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
The annual pay range is $89,100 – $111,400, commensurate with location, scope, and experience.
