Position Summary

The Merchandise Planning Manager builds sales, margin and inventory plans by class. Identifies risks and opportunities, manages inventory positions by location. Drives promotional strategy to achieve sales, inventory, margin and turnover objectives. Analyzes sales data to inform merchandising decisions.

The Museum of Modern Art’s Retail division is an omnichannel business, operating branded stores in NYC, a global e‑commerce business, licensing, wholesale operations, and (through external partners) international store locations.

Responsibilities PRE-SEASON
  • Creates pre-season sales, margin and inventory plans by class in OTB that align to financial budget incorporating channel feedback, trend and historical analysis.
  • Reports, analyzes and publishes seasonal sales performance for Hindsight. Provides buying team with seasonal sales, margin and sku count guidance by subclass and buy quantities for newness and returning using replenishment ladders. Influences store assortment strategy through seasonal analysis.
IN-SEASON
  • Provides weekly updates on MoMA Retail business as it relates to plan and last year.
  • Actualizes and reforecasts monthly sales, margin and inventory in OTB; calls‑out risks to plans, maximizes inventory flow to improve turn, reconciles on order against receipt plan.
  • Breaks down buyer’s seasonal style sales plans to weekly level to measure sales performance by week/month/quarter/season.
  • Proposes markdown and promotional strategies to maximize profitability and turn; ensures flawless communication and operational execution. Reports on results of promotions.
  • Analyzes style performance across stores and e‑com and recommends re‑order (chase) quantities by sku.
  • Monitors inventory levels across stores and Radial distribution center. Supports in inventory execution of Pop‑ups and special events. Assists in promo entry and backend management of merchandising system (Teamwork).
  • Owns labor recommendations for warehousing, in‑store replenishment and year‑end cycle count.
  • Provides ad‑hoc planning reporting and analysis as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; previous planning experience.
  • Retail math knowledge.
  • Exceptional in Microsoft Excel & knowledge of Google Sheets.
  • System savvy experience in Teamwork, Looker, Powerhouse preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and time management skills.
  • Highly collaborative with a sense of urgency.

Salary

The salary range for this position is a minimum of $90,000 to maximum of $100,000 per annum.

Other

MoMA Retail employees work a hybrid schedule of four days in the office with the opportunity to work one day remote, subject to change as business needs necessitate.
