Key Holding Shop Associate

The Key-Holding Shop Associate reports directly to the Shop Owner. This role is for someone who obsesses over the customers’ experience as much as they obsess over plants and who is looking to grow their career within a small business environment. You will support the day-to-day running of the Shop.

• Share deep knowledge of both plant species and care
• Perform Shop opening and closing procedures including counting register funds, preparing bank deposits, opening and closing register
• Care for in-stock plants - both houseplants and annuals/perennials in the Shop Yard
• Utilize and build a breadth of plant care abilities and knowledge
• Process deliveries, replenish Shop floor and Yard, maintain stock room
• Maintain overall Shop cleanliness, organization and visual presentation
• Execute daily task list
• Multitask, while making the customer the priority
• Communicate business trends, product feedback, stock levels and customer requests to the Shop Owner and the Shop Team

Skills Required

• Prior supervisory experience in a retail environment preferred
• Deep knowledge of plants and their care
• Gardening and houseplant experience
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• An understanding of small business operating details
• Ability to manage time; to complete tasks and support customers’ needs simultaneously
• Motivated to problem solve
• Action oriented and energized by challenges and hard work
• Able to work independently

Additional Requirements

• Part time hours (15-20 hours per week)
• Flexible schedule required, including a requirement to work evenings, weekends and days surrounding/including select holidays.
• Standing for extended periods of time
• Ability to safely lift boxes up to 40 pounds
• Ability and comfortability to climb ladders

Conveniently situated between Williamsburg and Long Island City, we aim to help small space gardeners - and aspiring gardeners - achieve their planting goals. Our store is stocked with apartment-ready tropical houseplants, succulents, clay pots, handmade planters, and various garden-inspired gifts. Our yard is brimming with just the right nursery plants and larger containers for our neighbors’ stoops, windowsills, and balconies (and the rare garden too!).
