Restaurant Shift Leader role at Potbelly Sandwich Works
Salary: $18-$20/hour plus tips. Nonexempt position with rare travel. Report to General Manager/Assistant Manager.
General DescriptionLeads and behaves according to Potbelly Values. Leads a shift by managing and developing associates to deliver outstanding product quality and customer service, build sales, and control costs each shift.
Responsibilities- People
- Lead associates on shifts, assigning tasks, providing feedback, and training.
- Support appropriate personnel policies, labor laws, and safety procedures.
- Ensure all security procedures are executed.
- Handle opening and closing duties.
- Customers
- Make customers really happy.
- Resolve customer complaints/issues.
- Empower associates to ensure customers leave happy.
- Execute and support all food safety requirements and practices.
- Sales
- Lead associates to open, transition, and close shifts without supervision.
- Manage and organize the line and delegate duties to associates.
- Uphold standards for product quality.
- Work the line as needed.
- Ensure back‑of‑house procedural standards are met.
- Promote sales on the shift through the marketing plan.
- Profits
- Control food costs, labor, waste, and cash on the shift.
- Count drawers and follow proper daily cash handling procedures.
- Essential Physical Functions
- Work a minimum of 40 hours a week; stand/walk 8‑9 hours, sit 1‑2 hours.
- Lift up to 10 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Work in warm and cool environments, tolerate noise and allergens.
- Oversee a fast‑paced, high‑volume shift.
- Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience in a restaurant or retail environment.
- High School degree.
- Work at least 2 opens/closes per week.
- All Shift Leaders must receive and pass Food Safety Certification.
- English communication skills, exceptional customer service, strong communication, organization, interpersonal, training, leadership, team‑player, and multi‑tasking abilities.
