Mad, a sophisticated members’ club and hotel nestled in the heart of New York City. As the first international outpost of The Ned, we proudly opened our doors in Summer 2022, following the iconic debut of The Ned London in 2017.
Set in the historic Johnston Building, formerly the No
Mad Hotel, our property boasts a rich legacy dating back to 1903. With design expertise from the Soho House Design team, we’ve lovingly preserved the building’s original charm while infusing it with a fresh, contemporary style.
We are looking for a Pastry Cook to support and report directly into the Pastry Chef. This is a fast‑moving business, so we seek an autonomous individual who can manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Our culture is pacey yet supportive; you must collaborate seamlessly with peers and other departments. Being an active communicator, team player, and detail‑oriented professional is essential to deliver a uniquely brilliant pastry experience to our members and guests.
Responsibilities- Daily preparation of pastry items in the pantry and/or other areas of the kitchen
- Prepare all pastry items to recipe and order as trained to ensure consistent product is served for our members globally
- Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the Company for production and a‑la‑carte dishes
- Restock all items as needed throughout shift
- Clean and maintain station in practicing good safety, sanitation, and organizational skills
- Properly use and maintain kitchen equipment
- Assist with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, walk‑in coolers, and all storage areas
- Perform additional responsibilities, as requested by the Chef, Sous Chef or Kitchen Manager at any time
- A minimum of 1+ years of experience in a fast paced and professional environment
- Previous experience working in a high‑volume and pastry‑forward restaurant
- Proven success as a “champion of the culture,” facilitating excellent communication and engagement
- Team focused with an understanding of the bigger picture and how you can contribute
- Able to effectively manage different stakeholders and be persuasive
- Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands.
- Must be able to work on your feet for at least 8 hours.
- Fast paced movements are required to go from one part of the club to others.
- Must be able to move, pull, carry or lift at least 20 to 60 pounds.
- Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch and climb as required.
- Must be able to use step ladder.
