Overview

Part-Time:
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10am-4pm. Hourly Rate: $19.23.

Under the general direction of the Program Director, the Cook is responsible for purchasing, stocking, preparing, and cooking the food that is provided to clients at a program site.

Responsibilities
  • Clean food preparation areas, cooking surfaces, equipment, and utensils.
  • Ensure sanitation, health, and safety standards are maintained in work areas.
  • Measure ingredients required for specific foods to be prepared.
  • Wash, cut, chop, and prepare foods designated for cooking.
  • Follow menu in preparing meals.
  • Follow recipes in cooking meals.
  • Clean, stock, and restock workstation and supply area.
  • Follow personal sanitation standards before, during, and after cooking food.
  • Order and take delivery of food and supplies.
Qualifications
  • Food Protection Certificate issued by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency, or Culinary School training.
  • At least two (2) years of relevant experience as a Cook in a restaurant or similar environment such as the NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS) or another city‑operated organization.
  • Good understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients and staff.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule as needed in response to program and staff needs.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Team player and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
