Overview
We are seeking a motivated Food Scientist to support the development, optimization, and commercialization of aseptic beverage products. This role focuses on product development, sensory evaluation, research support, and data collection, working closely with cross-functional teams to bring high-quality, shelf-stable beverages from concept through commercialization. The ideal candidate has 1–2 years of relevant experience, strong technical curiosity, and a passion for beverage innovation.
Key Responsibilities- Product Development & Aseptic Beverages:
Support formulation and reformulation of aseptic and shelf-stable beverage products, including juices, dairy-based, dairy-alternative, and functional beverages. - Execute bench-top experiments, pilot-scale trials, and manufacturing trials under the guidance of senior scientists.
- Prepare product samples for internal evaluations, customer presentations, shelf-life studies, and sensory testing.
- Assist with ingredient evaluations, processing trials, and packaging compatibility for aseptic systems.
- Research Support & Data Collection:
Provide hands-on research support for product development, process improvement, and technical investigations. - Collect, organize, and analyze experimental and production data, including formulation parameters, processing conditions, and sensory results.
- Maintain accurate and complete laboratory notebooks, data logs, and trial documentation in accordance with R&D standards.
- Summarize findings and support preparation of technical reports, presentations, and project updates.
- Assist with shelf-life, stability, and quality studies, including sample preparation, testing, and data tracking.
- Sensory & Product Evaluation:
Support the planning and execution of sensory evaluations, including difference testing, descriptive analysis, and consumer testing. - Prepare sensory samples, coordinate panel logistics, and ensure adherence to established sensory protocols.
- Compile sensory data and assist with basic interpretation and reporting of results.
- Documentation &
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Maintain formulation records, product specifications, and development documentation. - Support R&D-to-Operations scale-up and handoff, ensuring technical accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and Procurement teams to support development timelines and troubleshoot product or process issues.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- 1–2 years of relevant experience (industry, internship, or co-op) in food or beverage R&D.
- Foundational knowledge of food processing, formulation, and sensory science.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow standardized procedures and maintain accurate records.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1–2 years of experience in food or beverage product development, supporting formulation, reformulation, or commercialization activities.
- Hands-on experience contributing to product development projects, including sample preparation, data collection, and technical documentation.
- Exposure to aseptic or shelf-stable beverage systems (e.g., UHT, ESL, hot-fill, or low-acid beverages).
- Experience supporting bench-top, pilot-scale, and/or manufacturing trials.
- Working knowledge of sensory evaluation methods and basic data interpretation.
- Familiarity with ingredient functionality, flavor systems, and the impact of processing on product quality and shelf life.
- Comfortable working in a laboratory and pilot plant environment, following GMPs and food safety protocols.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Salary Range: $75,000 - $84,000
