Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. We are currently seeking an Intern in our Research & Information Services (RIS) Department reporting to the Director of RIS, Research Services Manager, and Senior Research Specialist. The RIS Intern will be exposed to client work and research projects covering a range of topics that are salient in the litigation industry.
The intern will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals while also developing independent research and writing skills.

- Schedule: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

- Analyze RIS usage metrics and prepare summary reports.
- Assist with updates to and preparation of training and outreach materials on RIS resources.
- Make suggestions for improvements to the RIS team’s intranet pages, including both structure and content.
- Assist in testing and evaluating generative AI research tools alongside traditional research resources to assess accuracy, efficiency, and appropriate use cases.
- Conduct research related to pressing issues in various matters and develop work product based on that research.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues in the RIS department and attend department meetings.
- Other ad hoc projects as assigned by the Director of RIS, Research Services Manager, and Senior Research Specialist.
- Rising junior, senior or recently graduated from accredited university or college.
- Strong analytical and research skills, including experience with substantive academic research or research‑intensive coursework.
- Proficiency in Windows operating systems and in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Knowledge of Generative AI, including effective prompting and a basic understanding of current limitations of the technology; some experience with specific tools in a research or commercial setting would be an advantage.
- Experience (or significant interest in) a legal and/or commercial setting.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate potentially detailed and complex information to others.
- Aptitude and willingness to work with complex procedures.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to changing priorities in a professional manner.
- Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities.
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with all levels of personnel and work collaboratively across all firm departments.
- Ability to work well under pressure, motivate self, facilitate creative solutions, and meet deadlines and milestones for projects assigned.

The hourly range for this internship in New York and Washington, DC is $19.50 to $23.50/hr.
