Brookhaven's Interdisciplinary Science Department
, Energy Systems Division is seeking Student Assistants for 3 months in the summer of 2026 (May to August) with an expected schedule of 40 hours per week during the term of employment.
- The major responsibility of the student will be the performance of power grid modeling and simulation, statistical analysis and machine learning applications in power system control or cybersecurity, and the implementation in Python and Matlab.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Candidates for the position are expected to be Ph.D. or Master's students with training to perform research and development under some guidance.
- Candidates should have a major in electrical engineering, computer science, or applied mathematics.
- Seeking candidates with a background in electric power systems modeling and simulation and software development skills using programming languages such as Python or Matlab are also required.
- One of the following experiences is also required:
- AI/ML forecasting model experience.
- Quantum machine learning.
- Large language model (LLM) applications.
- OPAL-RT modeling/simulation experience.
- Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $17.00 - $31.75 per hour. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualifications, education, and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
