Position Description
:
As a Research Technician I-II in the laboratory of Dr. Peter Westcott at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, you will work with a team of scientists studying how cancer coevolves with the immune system and investigating new therapeutic strategies to improve immunity against cancer. Research spans cancer genetics and genomics, immunology, immunotherapy, genetic engineering, and mouse models of cancer in a highly collaborative environment.
You will receive hands-on training and mentorship with an eye towards your career development.
- Maintain an experimental mouse colony and manage related husbandry tasks.
- Handle ordering and procurement and organize experimental databases.
- Optimize experimental protocols and prepare tissues for analyses (e.g., flow cytometry, sequencing).
- Perform tissue immunostaining and microscopy, cell culture, PCR and molecular cloning.
- Assist with basic laboratory maintenance and participate in wet lab and project management activities.
- Education
: A Bachelor’s degree in biology/chemistry or related discipline with prior exposure to a research lab is required. - Skills/Experience
:
Working knowledge of molecular biology and genetics; experience with the ethical and humane use of laboratory animals is a plus. More experience is expected for a Technician II position. A commitment to work in this position for a minimum of 2 years, with a start date of mid-February/early March, is required. - We are looking for candidates with excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills; meticulous attention to detail and commitment to high quality standards; ability to work independently as well as in a team; and a strong sense of integrity.
